Arsenal update: Mikel Arteta warned he may ‘rue’ his choice as Kylian Mbappe faces transfer rejection.

Gary Neville believes Mikel Arteta will come to regret adopting such a cautious approach in Arsenal’s showdown with Manchester City. Meanwhile, the Gunners received a boost as William Saliba prepares to commit to a fresh five-year deal, turning down interest from Real Madrid—and indirectly from close friend Kylian Mbappe.

Arteta’s tactical choices sparked debate after both Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli were left on the bench in last Sunday’s clash at the Emirates. The game ended 1-1, with Martinelli salvaging a late equaliser thanks to an assist from Eze. Neville, however, insists Arsenal could have done more had Arteta named a more attacking lineup.

On the positive side, Arsenal’s defensive strength looks set to remain intact with Saliba ready to extend his stay until 2027. Despite Real Madrid’s interest, the French centre-back is staying put, meaning Mbappe won’t be persuading his long-time friend to join him in Spain. These developments highlight the balancing act Arteta faces as he navigates tough selection calls while ensuring Arsenal’s long-term stability.
