Enzo Maresca’s time at Chelsea has come to an end following just eighteen months at the helm, with Liam Rosenior emerging as the overwhelming 4/11 frontrunner to take over the position.

 

The announcement came in the early hours of New Year’s Day that Chelsea’s leadership would be making a determination regarding Maresca’s future with the club, and their response proved swift and decisive. His departure was confirmed shortly after midday, coming merely three days ahead of a scheduled fixture against Manchester City.

Maresca’s final match in charge was Tuesday’s 2-2 stalemate at home against Bournemouth, bringing to a close an eighteen-month spell during which he secured Champions League qualification through a fourth-place league finish and captured silverware in the form of the financially rewarding Club World Cup trophy during the summer months.

 

Liam Rosenior has seen heavy betting support, making him the clear 4/11 favourite to step into Maresca’s shoes, a move that would represent a transfer between two clubs operating under the BlueCo ownership structure.

 

Rosenior currently holds the managerial position at Strasbourg, which operates as one of Chelsea’s affiliated sister clubs within the multi-club network, and has guided them to an impressive seventh-place standing in Ligue 1 while also performing admirably in the Conference League competition, where they concluded the league phase in first position.
