“Absolute rubbish, Liverpool would have easily won if the referee and VAR weren’t blind. The PGMOL is an absolute joke now” –  This is according to Former referee Keith Hackett has strongly criticized what he called a “shocking” error by official Chris Kavanagh following the contentious events of the Liverpool versus Leeds match.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has argued that Leeds United should have been penalized with a penalty during their match against Liverpool.

The incident in question occurred in the first half when Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike attempted to drive into the box and was closely marked by Leeds defender Jaka Bijol.

Hackett expressed strong criticism, stating that referee Chris Kavanagh failed to recognize what he described as a “sustained holding offence.”

He labeled the decision not to award a penalty as “a disgrace” and called for the Premier League and refereeing body to address what he perceives as a growing problem with such offenses going unpunished.

Despite Liverpool’s early dominance and possession at Anfield, the teams went into halftime level. Hackett’s comments highlight a key moment where Leeds potentially avoided conceding a spot-kick, which could have changed the complexion of the contest.
