Liverpool have received a boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford, as Ryan Gravenberch could make his return to action.

The Dutch midfielder missed the Reds’ 5-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this week after twisting his ankle during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. Gravenberch had also been nursing a minor hamstring issue sustained while on international duty with the Netherlands earlier in October.

However, as Liverpool aim to end a three-game losing run in the Premier League, Arne Slot is optimistic that the 22-year-old will be available for selection at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Slot’s midfield dilemma

Slot will face a difficult choice in midfield after Curtis Jones impressed against Frankfurt, recording an incredible 122 completed passes — the highest total ever by a Liverpool player in a Champions League match. Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, consistently producing high-energy displays.

Injury concern for Jayden Danns

Liverpool will, however, remain without promising forward Jayden Danns, who continues to battle persistent injury problems. The youngster, who has scored three goals in 10 senior appearances, has struggled with a recurring back issue that sidelined him for much of last season and prevented him from featuring during his loan spell at Sunderland.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s medical team may recommend surgery, with no clear timetable for his return. Danns last appeared in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton but will miss the Brentford trip and could also sit out the upcoming match against Crystal Palace.

Potential debut for Woodman

Another player who might get an opportunity is goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. The 27-year-old joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Preston North End in the summer to serve as backup for Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

With Alisson sidelined due to a hamstring problem and Slot reluctant to risk Mamardashvili, Woodman could be handed his competitive debut. Described as a “bubbly character who raises standards,” he has featured in pre-season and been named on the bench five times this campaign.

Frimpong adds to Liverpool’s injury woes

Meanwhile, right-back Jeremie Frimpong is set for another spell out after suffering a hamstring injury just 19 minutes into the Frankfurt match. The former Bayer Leverkusen man had only recently returned from a similar issue.

Slot expressed frustration at the growing injury list, saying:

“It’s not helpful with Alisson and Giovanni Leoni already out, and now I expect Jeremie Frimpong to definitely be unavailable for a few weeks. People talk about us having 25 or 30 first-team players, but when we play 11 v 11 in training, we often have to include players from the under-21s.”

As Liverpool travel to west London, Slot’s men will be eager to return to winning ways — but injuries continue to test the squad’s depth and resilience.
