He joined Brighton in August 2023 but struggled to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup last season. However, under Fabian Hürzeler’s management this season, the midfielder has established himself as a key player, featuring in 27 matches across all competitions.

Baleba’s impressive form has attracted interest from top English clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

In an interview with Africa Foot, former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s progress. He admitted he expected Baleba to need two years to fully adapt to the Premier League but is surprised by how quickly the player has developed.

The report states that Brighton are demanding a high fee as they face growing interest from major clubs.

Tchoutang believes Baleba is prepared for a move but suggested that another season at Brighton would not hinder his progress.

“The transfer fee doesn’t affect him. He has a strong mindset, is well-supported by his parents, and won’t be distracted by the large sums. The key question is whether he’s ready to leave for a top club this summer,” Tchoutang said.

“Staying one more season at Brighton wouldn’t hurt his development. But I genuinely think he’s ready for a transfer. If he played in a different league, I might advise him to stay longer. However, this is his second season in England, and if top clubs are showing interest, it’s because they believe in his ability.”

Tchoutang backed Baleba to join Liverpool rather than Chelsea, explaining why the Reds would be the better option.

“For me, Liverpool would be the perfect destination!” he said.

“It’s not just because they’re the best team in the Premier League this season or one of the strongest in Europe. Arne Slot’s style of play would suit him perfectly. Liverpool’s pressing, attacking football, and trust in young players would allow him to thrive.”

“Chelsea are having an average season and aren’t at the same level as Liverpool or Arsenal. I believe Baleba has what it takes to play for one of England’s best teams. He’s ready and working hard to achieve that.”
