“Liverpool is the best fit for him” – Brighton player urged to choose the Reds over Chelsea.
He joined The Amex in August 2023, experiencing mixed playing time in Brighton’s lineup last season. However, under Fabian Hürzeler this season, the midfielder has secured a regular starting spot, making 27 appearances across all competitions.
Baleba’s impressive displays have sparked interest from top English clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
In a chat with Africa Foot, former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s progress at Brighton. He initially expected Baleba to need two years to adjust to the Premier League and expressed surprise at his rapid development.
According to the outlet, Brighton are demanding a hefty fee for the player as several elite clubs monitor his situation.
Tchoutang believes Baleba is ready for a big move but suggests spending another season with Hürzeler’s side wouldn’t harm his growth.
“The transfer figures don’t bother him. He’s mentally strong, well guided by his parents, and I don’t think large sums would distract him. The real question is whether he’s prepared to join a top club next summer,” Tchoutang said.
“Another year at Brighton wouldn’t be an issue. But I believe he’s ready for a transfer. If he played in another league, I might have advised him to stay longer, but this is his second season in England, and if top clubs are interested, it’s because they believe in his quality.”
Backing Baleba to join Liverpool over Chelsea, Tchoutang explained his reasoning.
“For me, Liverpool would suit him best!” he stated.
“It’s not just because they’re the best team in the Premier League this season and one of the strongest in Europe. Arne Slot’s playing style would complement him perfectly. The Reds press, attack, and transition quickly, while also trusting young players and giving them responsibilities.”
“Chelsea are having a decent season, but they’re a level below Liverpool and Arsenal. I believe Baleba has the talent to play for one of England’s top clubs. He’s ready and working hard for it.”
