A key Chelsea player is reportedly “contemplating” a potential departure from Stamford Bridge this year.
Several Chelsea players are reportedly unhappy under Enzo Maresca, with the club’s recent poor form adding to growing frustrations behind the scenes.
Chelsea’s Struggles Under Maresca
After a strong start to the 2024/25 Premier League season, where they were even considered potential title challengers alongside Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea’s form has taken a sharp decline. In their last 10 matches across all competitions, they have managed just three wins—one of which was against lower-league side Morecambe in the FA Cup. Losses to Fulham, Ipswich Town, Manchester City, and two consecutive defeats to Brighton have intensified the pressure on Maresca.
Injury Woes and Fan Frustration
Injuries to key attackers such as Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke have left Chelsea short of attacking options, with criticism mounting over their decision not to sign a new forward in January. The frustration among fans was evident during their recent 3-0 defeat to Brighton, where supporters were heard chanting, “We want our Chelsea back.” In response, Maresca acknowledged their concerns and urged his players to show more determination.
“When you’re winning, fans are happy. When you’re not, they’re upset,” Maresca stated. “Right now, they have every reason to be, especially at this stage of the season when we have the opportunity to push Chelsea back to where it belongs. We need to show more desire.”
Uncertainty Over Player Futures
Speculation over potential player exits has been a major talking point, particularly during the winter transfer window when Bayern Munich reportedly showed interest in Christopher Nkunku. Now, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed that several Chelsea players are reassessing their futures at the club.
According to Phillips, one “top” Chelsea player is already considering leaving Stamford Bridge, though the journalist refrained from revealing the player’s identity out of respect for his source. He explained that some players are frustrated with their lack of playing time, while others are unsettled by the team’s struggles.
“Many current Chelsea players have grown unhappy—some due to limited minutes, others because of recent poor results. If Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League, several key players are expected to approach the club to discuss potential transfers,” Phillips reported.
He added that while not every player seeking an exit may be able to leave due to contractual clauses, at least one major Chelsea star is seriously contemplating a move if the club does not secure a top-four finish.
Pressure Mounts on Maresca
With Chelsea set to face Aston Villa next, Maresca is under increasing pressure to turn the situation around. The club’s Champions League hopes are fading, and if results don’t improve soon, Chelsea could face a significant squad shake-up in the summer.
