Richard Keys has expressed doubts about Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s commitment to the club, suggesting that Amorim “clearly doesn’t want to be there.” In his latest blog post, Keys also criticized Sir Jim Ratcliffe, calling him “a cycling expert in charge of football matters.”

 

The former Sky Sports presenter described United’s current state as “sad” following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, adding that he doesn’t see things improving anytime soon. The loss marked United’s eighth defeat in 14 Premier League matches since Amorim’s appointment in November, leaving them in 15th place, just one point behind Everton, their next opponents.

 

Amorim’s tactical decisions have come under heavy scrutiny, with pundits such as Gary Neville branding them “absolute madness” during live analysis.

In his blog, Keys stated that he remains unconvinced by both Amorim and Ratcliffe, pointing to Ratcliffe’s track record in football club ownership:

> “They have a manager who doesn’t seem committed, an owner who is uncertain about the next steps other than firing more capable staff, and a cycling enthusiast overseeing football decisions.

 

 

 

> “It’s truly disheartening. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’ve repeatedly highlighted what happened at Lausanne and Nice after Ratcliffe took control.

 

 

 

> “People often accuse me of being anti-United, but that’s not the case. I dislike what’s happening at the club, and unfortunately, I don’t see things improving anytime soon.”

 

 

 

Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November on a two-and-a-half-year contract, has struggled to make an impact, winning just four of his 14 league matches. With an average of one point per game, he is on track to oversee United’s worst-ever Premier League finish. The team currently sits in 15th place, trailing eighth place by 10 points—their lowest finish in history.

 

Before joining United, Amorim had built a strong reputation at Sporting Lisbon, where he secured two Primeira Liga titles and remained unbeaten in the Champions League during the early stages of this season.
