Manchester United are hunting for a new striker, but Rio Ferdinand believes the real priority lies elsewhere — in midfield.

 

Speaking recently, the United legend claimed that signing another forward won’t solve the team’s core issues. Instead, he insists that the club must invest heavily in a dominant midfielder who can take control of games and allow others, especially young attackers, to thrive.

 

Ferdinand previously praised Benjamin Sesko as a “very good addition,” but now says there’s one Premier League midfielder who would be an even more impactful signing. While he didn’t name the player outright, sources suggest he’s referring to João Palhinha of Fulham — a player known for his defensive strength, leadership, and ability to control the pace of matches.

 

“He brings presence, wins the ball, leads by example, and lets the attackers focus on scoring,” Ferdinand explained. “Put him next to Mainoo or Bruno, and you’ll see the difference.”

 

He warned that if United don’t act fast, another big club will, and it could be another missed opportunity like Jude Bellingham.
