Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has successfully undergone surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Martinez sustained the injury during the 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Old TrafforThe club later confirmed the extent of the injury, stating that evaluations were ongoing to decide the most suitable treatment plan.

Earlier this week, The Peoples Person reported that a decision had been made for the World Cup winner to undergo surgery.

According to the Daily Mail, the procedure took place in London on Thursday and was deemed successful.

It is reported that Martinez was accompanied by Manchester United officials during his trip to London. The report also suggests that his recovery could take anywhere from six months to a year.

If his rehabilitation goes well, Martinez might be ready to return to competitive play by the start of the 2024/25 season.

Martinez’s ACL injury occurred nearly a year after he suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in a 3-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford on February 4.

He made a comeback in the 1-1 draw against Brentford on March 30 but was later sidelined for six more weeks due to a calf injury.

Since joining Manchester United from Ajax in 2022, the 27-year-old has also had two foot surgeries and has played in 58 out of 100 Premier League games.

It remains uncertain whether this latest injury will impact Manchester United’s transfer strategy for the upcoming summer window. Even if Martinez is fit for the new season, he will likely need more time to regain full match fitness.

To manage his return carefully, United may consider signing a left-footed centre-back to reduce the pressure on Martinez and ensure a smooth comeback.
