Benjamin Sesko’s Future Hangs in the Balance as Man Utd and Newcastle Battle for His Signature

 

The race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is heating up, with both Manchester United and Newcastle United in active pursuit. According to multiple sources, a provisional agreement has already been reached — but the final decision now lies with the player himself.

 

For Manchester United, bringing in a reliable centre-forward is a major priority. Last season, their attacking duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed only seven Premier League goals between them — a stat that underlines the urgent need for reinforcements up front. Despite a slow goal-scoring season overall, new manager Ruben Amorim has already made some strong early moves in the transfer window, snapping up Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

 

Newcastle, on the other hand, initially planned to strengthen their squad with another striker, but the situation escalated when Alexander Isak reportedly expressed interest in leaving, with Liverpool knocking at the door. After already losing out to Liverpool in the race for Hugo Ekitike, the Magpies have turned their full attention to Sesko.

 

Transfer journalist Nicola Schira recently revealed that Newcastle have reached a verbal agreement with Sesko on a long-term contract through 2030. The club is now working behind the scenes to reach a deal with RB Leipzig.

 

Meanwhile, Manchester United haven’t given up. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are still discussing the possibility of a formal bid. The challenge lies in the financials — the complete deal could cost between €70–80 million, with additional bonuses. Romano also reminded fans about a “gentleman’s agreement” that gives certain clubs (like United) favorable negotiation terms due to Sesko’s preferences.

 

German reports suggest that Sesko still leans towards a move to Old Trafford over St. James’ Park, which keeps United very much in the game. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg confirmed that both clubs have already held talks with the striker’s camp and presented their visions for the future. Formal offers are expected to follow soon.

 

Despite the excitement, not everyone is convinced. Former United defender Rio Ferdinand recently voiced his concerns, suggesting the club needs experience over youth in the striker department. “It’s not that I doubt Sesko’s ability,” he said, “but with young players like Hojlund and Zirkzee already in the squad, we need someone who knows how to lead the line at the top level.”
