Manchester United’s struggles with their goalkeeping situation persisted on Sunday, as Andre Onana endured another disappointing performance, being at fault for Crystal Palace’s opening goal.

Since joining the club, the Cameroonian has made a series of errors, yet despite his inconsistent form, backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has seen limited playing time. The Turkish shot-stopper has yet to make his Premier League debut and only recently made his Europa League debut for United in the match against Rangers a few weeks ago.

While former manager Erik ten Hag rarely gave him opportunities, current boss Ruben Amorim has shown more willingness to integrate the Turkish international into the lineup.

Amorim has gradually placed more trust in Altay, handing him four starts so far. The former Fenerbahce goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal, making several crucial penalty saves.

However, according to Turkish outlet *Star*, the 26-year-old is dissatisfied with his limited role at United and is reportedly eager to leave the club to return to his home country, aiming to secure the starting position for the national team.

Galatasaray appears to be at the forefront of the race to sign him, as the Turkish club is expected to lose their current goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, at the end of the season. They view Bayindir as an ideal replacement.

“Following Muslera’s indication that he may depart next season, Galatasaray has begun searching for a new goalkeeper. They have already initiated efforts to secure the services of the national team’s goalkeeper,” the report stated.

“It has been revealed that Altay Bayindir is in talks with multiple Super League clubs, with Galatasaray emerging as the most likely destination.”

Bayindir’s future at United largely hinges on Amorim’s decision to either continue with Onana or give the Turkish goalkeeper more opportunities. Meanwhile, United have been linked with a potential move for Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel next summer, and Amorim is also said to be impressed by academy prospect Elyh Harrison.

This could leave Bayindir in a similar backup role, with reports suggesting he is too talented to remain a second-choice keeper.

Valued at €10 million, Bayindir’s contract with United runs until 2027. While there has been significant interest in him, no formal offers have been made yet. It remains to be seen whether other clubs will join the pursuit, potentially driving up his transfer fee.
