Manchester United remain fully focused on finalizing a deal for Bryan Mbeumo as they begin a new week in the transfer window. Despite weeks of negotiations, the club is yet to strike an agreement with Brentford, and the situation is testing the patience of fans who expected a quicker resolution.
It has been over a month since United tabled their first offer of £55 million for the Brentford forward. However, the London club swiftly turned down the proposal, suggesting that they value Mbeumo at a similar level to Matheus Cunha—United’s first signing of the summer—whose £62.5 million release clause was activated. In an effort to meet those expectations, United returned to the negotiating table with an improved package worth £55 million plus an additional £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons. Still, Brentford held firm and rejected the second offer as well.
The persistence shown by United reflects how highly they rate Mbeumo. The 25-year-old had a stellar 2024/25 campaign, stepping up in the absence of Ivan Toney and emerging as Brentford’s attacking leader. He scored 20 goals in the Premier League for the first time in his career and registered eight assists, playing a key role in the team’s overall performance. His durability and consistency were also remarkable—Mbeumo started every league match and logged 3,417 minutes across the season. To put that into perspective, Bruno Fernandes—one of United’s most relied-upon players—featured for 3,023 minutes.
New manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly eager to integrate Mbeumo into his tactical plans ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Pre-season training is now underway at Carrington, but the player United have been chasing for weeks is still not part of the squad. That situation adds urgency to United’s negotiations, especially since Amorim had hoped to have Mbeumo available from day one.
From the player’s side, things seem more straightforward. Mbeumo has already communicated his desire to join Manchester United, turning down interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. His decision to prioritize a move to Old Trafford places the responsibility firmly on United to reach an agreement with Brentford.
