On January 3rd, reports from Paraguay suggested that Cerro Porteño’s Diego León is set to travel to England for medical examinations ahead of a transfer to Manchester United.

Previous claims indicated that the Red Devils have agreed on a deal for the 17-year-old left-back’s move.

According to Versus, León is expected to travel to England on Saturday to “finalize details” of his transfer and visit the club’s facilities. He will undergo a medical, after which Manchester United will make the deal official. However, León will return to Cerro Porteño afterward, as the Premier League side cannot register him until he turns 18 in April.

The plan, according to Versus, is for León to remain at the Paraguayan club for the first half of the year before joining Manchester United for pre-season in the summer.

La Nación adds that León will be accompanied by his agent and a Cerro Porteño director during his trip to England. The Paraguay U17 international will undergo medical tests and familiarize himself with Manchester United’s facilities as part of his “adaptation process.”

The teenager will only be eligible for registration with Manchester United after his 18th birthday in April, meaning he will officially join Ruben Amorim’s squad next season.

La Nación also reports that Manchester United will pay Cerro Porteño $5 million plus bonuses to secure León’s signature.
