AC Milan Poised to Offload Forward to Create Space for Marcus Rashford Move

AC Milan is reportedly looking to offload a forward to make room for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as the January transfer window unfolds.

Rashford, who has been sidelined by United manager Ruben Amorim, is eager for a fresh start and has been exploring his options. After rejecting moves to Saudi Arabia and Turkey, the 27-year-old forward appears to favor a potential switch to the Italian giants.

However, the financial aspects of the deal remain a sticking point. Rashford’s substantial £325,000-per-week wage at United, where he is under contract until 2028, poses a challenge for Milan, whose top earner, Alvaro Morata, earns £150,000 weekly. The Rossoneri are reportedly pushing for an initial loan arrangement but are unwilling to cover even half of Rashford’s wages.

To facilitate the move, Milan is working to free up both squad space and finances. According to reports, forward Noah Okafor is set to join RB Leipzig on Friday on an initial loan deal that could become a permanent transfer for €25 million (£21 million) this summer. Okafor, who joined Milan from RB Salzburg for €15.5 million (£13 million) in 2023, has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Okafor’s departure would clear the path for Rashford’s potential arrival. Rashford’s brother and agent, Dane Rashford, has been in Italy this week to negotiate the terms of the deal. Meanwhile, Manchester United is open to parting ways with Rashford, as co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has emphasized that all players are available for the right price.

Rashford, who has contributed seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances this season, hasn’t featured for United since a 2-1 Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Speaking in December, Rashford expressed his readiness for a new chapter:
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United—that’s just who I am.

“I’ve seen how others have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will come from me.”

With the transfer window closing on February 3, Rashford’s future could soon be decided as Milan continues its pursuit of the England international.
