“That decision was absolutely disgraceful. How can a top football manager make such a decision. I just knew that Ruben Amorim wasn’t the man for the job. He basically led his team to defeat” – This is according to Gary Neville as he criticizes crucial choices made by Ruben Amorim that resulted in Manchester United being “completely outplayed.”

Manchester United icon Gary Neville did not hold back in his sharp criticism of Ruben Amorim’s tactical choices following the team’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

This latest loss, United’s fifth in their last six Premier League matches, leaves the club languishing in 14th place as 2024 comes to a close. With Amorim only two months into his role as manager, the Portuguese coach is already facing significant pressure.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Neville highlighted several questionable decisions made by Amorim, particularly regarding his use of wing-backs and the early substitution of Joshua Zirkzee after just 30 minutes.

“There’s no attacking threat going forward from the wing-backs, and that’s not their fault,” Neville remarked, pointing out that Amorim’s tactical approach demands adjustments from players that may not suit their strengths.

He also criticized the midfield pairing of Casemiro and Eriksen, stating, “Casemiro and Eriksen together just doesn’t work. I said it in the first half – they can’t play together in a Premier League game against the likes of Joelinton, Guimaraes, and Tonali. Ruben Amorim should have recognized that.”

Neville further described the performance as “embarrassing,” emphasizing how easily Newcastle dominated the match, leaving United “obliterated” by Eddie Howe’s side.

Amorim now faces a daunting task with upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Arsenal, and there are few signs of optimism in the team’s current state.

While fans hope Amorim can engineer a turnaround, the club must ensure he receives the support needed in the transfer market to implement his system effectively. Otherwise, the coming months could be especially challenging for both the manager and the team.
