Manchester United have reportedly shifted their attention to a new target after deeming Brentford’s asking price for Bryan Mbeumo too steep.

The Red Devils recently secured Matheus Cunha by activating his £62.5 million release clause from Wolves, adding more firepower to Ruben Amorim’s squad. United had also been chasing Mbeumo, who impressed last season with 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

However, Brentford turned down United’s opening offer of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, and later rejected an improved bid worth £55 million with an additional £7.5 million in performance-based bonuses. The Bees are reportedly holding firm at £65 million, and Mbeumo is said to be eager for a move to Old Trafford.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated via his YouTube channel that United are still optimistic and are working to refine their offer. He noted that the club is not only adjusting the overall amount but also focusing on the structure of the deal—including payment schedules and the nature of the add-ons.

Despite this, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that United’s hierarchy considers Brentford’s price tag excessive, especially given the need to strengthen other areas of the squad. As a result, the club is said to be turning its attention to a more affordable option: former Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Toney, who joined Saudi side Al-Ahli for £40 million last year, is now reportedly back on United’s radar. The club is interested in his Premier League experience, finishing ability, and physical presence—traits they believe make him a strong candidate to lead the line.

With his market value now at £21 million, United are believed to have tabled a bid of €30 million (around £26 million) plus €5 million (about £4.3 million) in add-ons. Initial discussions have already taken place between the two clubs and the player’s representatives, and optimism is growing at Old Trafford that a deal could be wrapped up soon.

Toney is reportedly keen on returning to the Premier League, particularly with a high-profile team like Manchester United. The club sees this move as a way to avoid overspending while bringing in a seasoned striker who fits the tactical vision for the upcoming campaign.
