Premier League officials are at the center of a massive controversy after a stunning VAR decision during the Wolves vs. Man United clash. PGMOL is under fire for the shocking call that led to Bruno Fernandes being shown a controversial red card.

A Premier League statement was issued shortly after Bruno Fernandes’ dismissal during the Wolves vs. Manchester United match. The attacking midfielder received his first yellow card in the first half for a foul on Matheus Cunha and was shown a second caution early in the second half following a late challenge on Nelson Semedo.

Wolves appeared to capitalize on the situation as Jorgen Strand Larsen headed the ball into the net shortly after, but the goal was ruled out for offside. A lengthy VAR review ensued before officials at Stockley Park upheld the on-field decision.

In response to the incident, the Premier League Match Centre shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter): “#WOLMUN – 49’: The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by the VAR as Strand Larsen was in an offside position.”

However, no official comment was made on Fernandes’ red card, as VAR is not used for incidents involving two bookable offences resulting in a dismissal.

The Portuguese midfielder, who previously had a red card rescinded earlier this season, will only serve a one-match suspension, missing the game against Newcastle. No appeal can be lodged for such cases.

United’s woes deepened moments later as Manuel Ugarte picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, adding to manager Ruben Amorim’s suspension troubles.

The disastrous period for United escalated further when Cunha scored directly from a corner, marking the sixth time in recent weeks that the team has conceded from a set piece.
