Chelsea fans are left reeling after the club confirms devastating news following their heroic effort to cut Liverpool’s lead in the title race this weekend

Chelsea are now just two points behind Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title. Despite narrowing the gap, head coach Enzo Maresca remains cautious about the team’s title chances, urging fans to temper their expectations.

Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Fulham at Anfield contributed to Chelsea’s surge. In a match filled with drama, the Reds went down to 10 men after Andy Robertson was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity just 17 minutes in. Despite the setback, Liverpool managed to battle back for a draw, marking the second consecutive league game in which they dropped points.

Meanwhile, Chelsea capitalized on Liverpool’s slip-up by securing a 2-1 victory over Brentford. The result puts added pressure on the league leaders, although Liverpool still hold a game in hand.

Maresca, however, downplayed Chelsea’s prospects of claiming the title this season. Speaking after the win, the Italian coach said:
“No, no, no. You can talk about the title, and the fans can dream about the title, absolutely. But if you ask me, I will tell you what I think. For me, we are not ready. No matter how many games we win, there are things we still need to improve. That said, we are happy the fans can dream of something more.”

Chelsea’s victory came with a significant setback, though. Marc Cucurella, who scored the opening goal in the 43rd minute, received a second yellow card after the final whistle for what was described as “adopting an aggressive attitude.” The Premier League Match Centre issued a statement confirming the suspension, adding that Brentford’s Kevin Schade was also booked for a similar offense.

Reflecting on the incident, Maresca said:
“I asked the referee, and he told me the second yellow card was for bad attitude. At the final whistle, I was celebrating with the coaching staff, so I didn’t see anything myself. I don’t know what happened.”

Cucurella’s suspension means he will miss Chelsea’s crucial clash with Everton on Sunday, adding to the challenges Maresca faces as he looks to maintain momentum in the title race.
