A reigning champion from one of Europe’s top leagues is reportedly targeting a major Chelsea player as a key summer signing.

Throughout the 2024/25 campaign, new manager Enzo Maresca leaned heavily on attacking talents like Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, and Noni Madueke to break down opposition defenses.

Madueke, in particular, earned high praise for his performances, with former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy even likening him to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka — a testament to his impact on the pitch.

Now, it appears that Madueke’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Napoli showing concrete interest in the England international.

Napoli’s Sporting Director Makes a Move

While Newcastle United are reportedly keen on bringing Madueke to St James’ Park, they may now face stiff competition from Serie A giants Napoli. According to Napoli Network, the club’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has already traveled to London to explore a potential deal.

During his visit, Manna is said to have met with intermediaries to assess the financial requirements of a possible transfer. Chelsea have reportedly placed a £50 million price tag on the winger — a significant markup from the approximately £29 million they paid PSV Eindhoven for him in January 2023.

Chelsea Open to a Sale

Despite Madueke’s 11 goals in 41 appearances this past season, Chelsea are reportedly open to cashing in on the 23-year-old.

The club is said to believe the player’s progression has stalled, making a transfer a viable option, particularly as they prepare to reshape their attacking line-up.

With Jadon Sancho returning to Manchester United and Mykhailo Mudryk still unavailable due to suspension, Chelsea are growing thin in wide positions. Nevertheless, the club is expected to reinforce its squad during the transfer window.

Highly-rated Brazilian winger Estevão Willian is set to link up with the first team soon, and further signings may follow — creating space for a reshuffle that could see Madueke leave Stamford Bridge.

If Napoli decide to meet Chelsea’s valuation, the deal could move quickly. With several weeks of the summer window still ahead, the winger’s future is likely to remain a hot topic.
