Ruben Amorim is reportedly looking to make Angel Gomes one of his first signings as Manchester United manager.

As per The Sun, Amorim is mindful of the club’s financial limitations over the next two transfer windows, following significant spending under Erik ten Hag on underperforming players. With Gomes available on a free transfer next summer, the England international has become a key target for the new boss.

A move would mark a return to Old Trafford for Gomes, who left in 2020 seeking more first-team opportunities. Since then, the 24-year-old has progressed significantly, even earning his senior England debut earlier this year. Reflecting on his departure, Gomes stated: “There was a contract for me to sign, but it wasn’t about money. It was about the pathway and the opportunity Lille provided.”

Gomes, whose contract with Lille expires next summer, has reportedly drawn interest from sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox, who are intrigued by the prospect of securing him on a Bosman deal. Gomes himself has expressed openness to rejoining United, recently admitting, “There will always be a sentimental connection, so of course, it’d be hard to say no.”
