Bruno Fernandes assigns blame to a Manchester United teammate following the draw against Bournemouth.

Bruno Fernandes took a subtle jab at Rasmus Hojlund despite the striker netting a late equaliser in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. Hojlund salvaged a point in injury time by deflecting Manuel Ugarte’s shot into the goal after Antoine Semenyo had earlier put Bournemouth ahead, even though the hosts were reduced to 10 men following Evanilson’s red card.

 

It marked only Hojlund’s fourth Premier League goal in 29 appearances this season. Though Fernandes congratulated his teammate, he also used his post-match interview to stress the expectations on United’s number nine. Speaking to MUTV, Fernandes said, “Strikers are judged on goals. Being United’s No.9 comes with responsibility — he knows it. It’s a demand not just for him, but for all of us.”

 

Fernandes added that any player capable of scoring must take chances when they come. “Today it was Rasmus, and we’re all happy to see it. Hopefully, it gives him momentum going forward.”

 

Despite Hojlund’s nine goals and four assists across 46 games in all competitions, United’s struggles in attack remain evident. Manager Ruben Amorim pointed out the team’s wastefulness, having taken 25 shots against 10-man Bournemouth but managing only a late goal.

 

“We must improve our decision-making in the box,” Amorim told Sky Sports, highlighting the need for sharper finishing. With just 39 goals in 34 Premier League matches — a record better than only a few other teams — United’s lack of firepower is clear.

 

The club is expected to prioritize signing a new striker this summer, with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Ipswich’s Liam Delap, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen all on their radar.
