Reports have emerged that Manchester United could face the departure of one of Erik ten Hag’s summer signings as soon as January.

The Red Devils invested over £200 million in the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad by adding Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro.

However, Ten Hag is under pressure following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with United sitting in 11th place after securing just three wins from eight games.

The new signings at Manchester United have had a mixed impact so far, with Manuel Ugarte still adjusting to life in Manchester and Joshua Zirkzee among those struggling to find form.

Reports from Italy indicate that the Dutch forward is already considering a return to Serie A, just three months after his move to Old Trafford.

Zirkzee made a promising start by scoring a brilliant debut goal to secure a 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day, but the 23-year-old has failed to score in his subsequent 10 appearances under Erik ten Hag.

Zirkzee’s future at Manchester United could depend on whether Erik ten Hag stays as manager, following discussions among senior officials, including head of football operations Sir Jim Ratcliffe, regarding Ten Hag’s position.

Despite the Dutchman’s struggles, Ten Hag remains confident in Zirkzee’s potential, having invested significantly in the young striker. In September, Ten Hag expressed his belief that Zirkzee will develop into a prolific scorer, noting, “He is young, and you see his capabilities. He is a very good link-up player, creative, and creates chances.”

While Zirkzee has shown flashes of quality, Ten Hag acknowledged that the striker needs to improve in front of goal, adding, “He has some very good attributes and others that need work, and we are here to support his development.”
