Jadon Sancho’s move to Chelsea has reportedly been set in motion, with Manchester United now waiting for the final decision from Enzo Maresca.

Manchester United have received a significant lift in their attempt to part ways with Jadon Sancho. The 24-year-old winger joined Chelsea on loan at the end of the summer window, aiming for more consistent playing time.

As per The Athletic, Sancho’s contract includes a £25 million obligation-to-buy clause, which has reportedly been activated after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Fulham. The clause depended on Chelsea finishing 14th or higher in the Premier League — a condition now mathematically fulfilled as Enzo Maresca’s team secured a top-12 spot. However, the Blues can still back out by paying a £5 million release fee.

Sancho made an instant impact at Stamford Bridge, delivering assists in his first three games. Maresca praised his early performances, highlighting the winger’s need for support and confidence. Sancho then played a key role in Chelsea’s five-match winning streak, netting against both Southampton and Spurs. But a subsequent dip in team form saw his momentum stall.

Despite a 16-game goalless stretch, he ended his drought with a vital strike against Ipswich Town, helping Chelsea in their push for Champions League qualification. Currently sixth in the table, Chelsea are in a tight race for European spots, while Manchester United languish in 14th.

Should Chelsea opt out of the permanent deal, Sancho could face an uncertain return to Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently expressed doubts about past signings, including Sancho, criticizing United’s previous transfer strategy and underlining the need to move forward.
