Chelsea captain Reece James has hinted at a possible return from injury ahead of their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest, who lost their unbeaten streak to Fulham, face a tough challenge with upcoming fixtures, including Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea, who are currently fourth in the table despite dealing with key injuries.

James, who has been sidelined all season due to a hamstring issue, only played 11 times last season. However, in an Instagram post, the 24-year-old shared a positive update, writing: “Long story short, I’m doing well. Hope to see you soon.”

It’s unclear if he will feature this weekend, but Maresca insists he won’t rush his return, saying, “The most important thing is players come back when they are 100% fit.”

Malo Gusto has filled in at right-back, though he has been carefully managed since his return, which may offer an opportunity for Callum Hudson-Odoi to challenge his former team.

Romeo Lavia also made a brief return against Brighton, while Omari Kellyman remains sidelined until November with a hamstring injury.
