Despite advancing to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals, Chelsea suffered a concerning 2-1 home defeat to Legia Warsaw, leaving many supporters uneasy about the team’s direction as the season nears its conclusion.
Enzo Maresca’s side dominated possession with 70%, recorded an expected goals (xG) value of 2.00, created five clear chances, and registered 16 shots. However, Legia, with just 30% possession, still managed 13 shots, four major chances, and a higher xG of 2.22.
There were few positives from Chelsea’s performance. One of the few bright spots was academy talent Tyrique George, who made an impact off the bench. In contrast, Cole Palmer delivered another disappointing display, appearing to lack both sharpness and confidence.
Palmer’s struggles continue
The 22-year-old attacker has not scored since January against Bournemouth and has been far from clinical in recent appearances. Against Legia, he took two shots—both of which were poorly executed compared to his high standards last season. He appeared hesitant in front of goal, seemed frustrated, and lacked the decisiveness he was once known for.
Palmer completed just 31 touches in 58 minutes, lost possession six times, and only won two of five ground duels. Yet, fans might be more concerned about another forward who started the match and continues to disappoint.
Chelsea’s misfiring forward may have reached the end
Christopher Nkunku’s underwhelming season persisted, with another ineffective outing that earned him a 3/10 rating from GOAL. Having often been deployed in unfamiliar roles, either as a striker or on the wing, the Frenchman again struggled to make an impact.

Supporters are beginning to lose faith, and with transfer interest growing ahead of the summer window, it might be wise for Chelsea to consider selling the 27-year-old and moving on.
