Liverpool icon names emerging talent as a ‘brilliant successor’ to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All attention is now on Trent Alexander-Arnold following the contract renewals of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah with Premier League leaders Liverpool this month.
Just days after Salah confirmed his commitment to staying at Liverpool for at least two more years, captain Van Dijk resolved any doubts surrounding his future at the club.
While Manchester fans may be disappointed, there’s a clear sense of relief among those on the red side of Stanley Park.
The big question is whether Alexander-Arnold will follow suit. Not long ago, Salah seemed set for a move to Saudi Arabia, while Paris Saint-Germain reportedly showed interest in Van Dijk.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano’s latest update, Alexander-Arnold is still drawing closer to a move to Real Madrid, and there’s no indication of a change in that direction for now.
Yet, if Liverpool fans were told they’d keep two out of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold, most would likely accept that outcome.
Sammy Lee believes that Trent could be the most dispensable of the trio, especially with the club seemingly having a ready-made replacement in Conor Bradley.
At just 21 years old, Bradley has already proven his worth as a potential successor to Alexander-Arnold, including a standout performance against Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier.
However, Lee warns that Liverpool must be cautious of having a squad that is strong in quality but lacks depth.
“Bradley will need support,” Lee adds. “You always need options for each position. They need to strengthen in every area.”
Lee recalls a pre-season conversation with former manager Gerard Houllier, who emphasized the need for two players in every position to ensure adequate cover, even if that’s difficult due to financial constraints.
“When I say Liverpool need to strengthen every position, I don’t mean they’re weak. But having options across the board is essential.”
