Virgil van Dijk pens new Liverpool deal shortly after Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal.

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has reaffirmed his commitment to the club by signing a fresh two-year deal. This move follows Mohamed Salah’s recent contract extension, with both stars agreeing new terms just months before their current agreements were due to expire.

 

Although both players had always expressed a desire to remain at Anfield, contract talks dragged on throughout the season. However, with the Premier League title now firmly within reach, the Reds have resolved those uncertainties.

 

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Van Dijk shared his emotions: “I feel incredibly proud and happy. So many emotions are running through me. Extending my time here by another two years is truly special.”

 

He emphasized his loyalty to the club, stating, “It was always Liverpool. That’s what I had in mind, that was always the goal—for me and my family, this is home.”

 

Van Dijk’s extension offers another major boost to Liverpool, especially as fellow star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain. With his contract ending soon and Real Madrid reportedly confident of securing him on a free transfer, his departure seems likely.

 

Set to turn 34 in July, Van Dijk has nonetheless delivered a stellar season and remains in contention for Player of the Year honors alongside Salah. His late goal against West Ham last weekend further highlighted his importance to the squad.

 

Reflecting on his journey, the Dutch defender said, “Liverpool’s culture and spirit are a part of me. I love the club deeply—you can see that in everything I do, both on and off the pitch.”

 

He also hinted at positive developments behind the scenes, with Liverpool planning a significant summer transfer window. “We should be aiming for trophies in the years ahead,” Van Dijk added. “It seems the club is preparing for a big summer, and we have to trust the board to make the right moves.”
