Manchester United concluded a disappointing season on a high note with their FA Cup victory over fierce rivals Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

This win secured their qualification for the Europa League, and winning a second trophy in as many seasons might convince INEOS to retain manager Erik ten Hag for another term.

Despite the 2-1 victory, the squad still needs significant improvements, particularly in goalscoring. The 20-time English league champions were the joint-lowest scorers among the league’s top 10 teams. Although Rasmus Hojlund ended his debut season as the club’s top scorer, he needs support.

Goalscorer needed
The Dutch manager had hoped to reintegrate Mason Greenwood into the first team, but fan pressure led then-CEO Richard Arnold to reverse the decision, resulting in Greenwood’s departure to Getafe.

In Spain, the 22-year-old scored 10 goals and provided six assists, earning the club’s Player of the Season award and attracting new admirers.

Atletico Madrid emerged as a prime suitor, willing to offer up to £40 million, while INEOS reportedly holds out for £50 million. This steep price hike deterred Barcelona, and Juventus’ opening bid was dismissed by Manchester United.

United would prefer a permanent transfer for Greenwood but are open to bringing him back for pre-season training if no deal materializes.

According to The Daily Star, Atletico Madrid is still pursuing Greenwood and is considering a player-exchange deal involving Joao Felix.

The Portuguese forward has no future under Diego Simeone and has been loaned out for the past two seasons, first to Chelsea and then to Barcelona.

Felix, 24, scored 10 goals and provided six assists for Barcelona while netting four times in 16 league games for Chelsea. He is versatile, capable of playing across the frontline and out wide, and the final decision on pursuing this swap deal rests with the manager.

Greenwood-Felix swap
“Manchester United are considering a swap deal involving Mason Greenwood and Portuguese star Joao Felix. Atletico Madrid are one of a host of European clubs keen to sign Greenwood and are willing to offer United Felix in return.

“It’s understood Atletico have offered Felix to United as part of a deal that will see Greenwood join Diego Simeone’s men. United are considering if Felix would be the right fit at Old Trafford.”

The former Benfica star prefers a move to a Champions League club, and it remains to be seen if Manchester United will agree to such a proposal. Ten Hag is a fan of the former Golden Boy award winner, and Felix was linked with a loan move to Old Trafford during the January window a few seasons ago, but the club ultimately signed Wout Weghorst.

While Felix is not a typical goalscorer, he could address multiple creative needs. Meanwhile, Greenwood is also attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, indicating that these transfer rumors are far from over.
