Liverpool’s transfer updates include claims of contacting a Real Madrid defender and a rising interest in Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres.

Liverpool needs to solidify its succession plan for Jürgen Klopp’s departure this summer before making any definitive transfer decisions.

While the squad is currently in good shape, significant changes may not be necessary. However, continuous improvement is crucial, as remaining stagnant is not an option.

Michael Edwards, now serving as FSG’s CEO of football, and Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s new sporting director, understand the importance of this.

Prioritizing contract extensions for key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose deals expire in 2025, may be more crucial than transfers.

Nonetheless, adding some additional quality to the squad would be beneficial.

Regarding the recent transfer rumors surrounding Liverpool, there are talks about the potential acquisition of a Real Madrid defender who could be departing the club.

Additionally, there’s speculation about a Sporting CP forward who has been in prolific goal-scoring form this season.

However, it remains uncertain whether signing another striker is a priority for Liverpool.

One player linked with Liverpool is Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old French full-back has only a year left on his contract after the season ends, making him an attractive prospect for several Premier League clubs seeking a potential bargain.

Apart from Liverpool, Arsenal has reportedly reached out to the player regarding a potential transfer, although no formal discussions have taken place.

Liverpool is hesitant to make commitments until they secure a new manager. Newcastle United and both Manchester clubs have also expressed interest.

Liverpool.com comments: Mendy possesses significant experience and talent, but his age might be slightly beyond Liverpool’s typical target range. It would be unexpected to see this transfer materialize.

Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP)
Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres is reportedly attracting increasing interest from Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window, as per HITC.

Following Sporting CP’s 3-0 victory against fifth-placed Vitória de Guimarães over the weekend, Liverpool scouts were supposedly present to observe him.

The report also suggests that Liverpool scouts evaluated holding midfielder Morten Hjulmand and left-footed center-back Gonçalo Inácio during the same match.

These positions appear more likely targets for Liverpool than adding another forward, unless there is a departure among the current options.

Gyökeres has a release clause valued at $107 million (£86 million/€100 million) in his contract.
