Reports have emerged detailing the narrow escape of Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, from a potential red card during the FA Cup clash against Liverpool.

Lee Dixon has provided insights into why Fernandes managed to avoid a second yellow card despite a challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai in the game.

Although Fernandes had already been booked earlier, his tackle on Szoboszlai did not result in another booking. Dixon, who was part of the commentary team, acknowledged that while Fernandes was fortunate not to receive a yellow card, he did not believe the tackle warranted a straight red.

He highlighted that similar incidents are common on the pitch, and although they might be subject to VAR review, it did not intervene in this case.

Dixon suggested that if the same tackle had occurred elsewhere on the pitch and Fernandes had not been booked previously, he would have received a yellow card.

He expressed confidence that the referee would have taken action if the tackle had happened at a different location on the field.
