“Forget about Kylian Mbappe and try to get these players. We already have a good striker, just need better wingers and midfielders and these players can get the job done.” – Dwight Yorke has identified two players he believes Manchester United should pursue in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has suggested that Tottenham’s captain Son Heung-min and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong should be on the club’s radar for summer transfers.

Erik ten Hag’s team has significantly closed the gap on the top four, now just five points behind after securing their fourth consecutive Premier League victory against Luton Town on Sunday.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are undergoing changes in the senior management team, aiming to appoint Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth as a sporting director.

Newcastle has confirmed that Ashworth, aged 52, has been placed on gardening leave, with discussions expected to intensify regarding a compensation fee.

Although Ashworth might not be able to start at Old Trafford before the start of the summer transfer window, Yorke believes that regardless, Manchester United should pursue Son Heung-min and Frenkie de Jong.

“I believe we require a striker, a number nine, someone with considerable Premier League experience. Signing a quality player like Son would be excellent,” the former Premier League champion expressed to Gambling Zone.

“While he may not possess Harry Kane’s style, Son’s dynamic play and goal-scoring prowess make him an appealing option. Someone of his caliber would certainly catch my attention as a target for acquisition.”

“These clubs are all vying for talent, and securing such players will pose a challenge, especially if United fail to qualify for the Champions League next season,” Yorke emphasized.

 

“In midfield, Ten Hag might prioritize bringing in fresh talent during the summer, particularly with Casemiro displaying signs of decline this season. In such a scenario, Yorke believes United should pursue Barcelona midfielder De Jong, who has been linked with a departure at the end of the season.”

 

“I think it would be beneficial to have De Jong mentor Mainoo, as he would complement Manchester United’s midfield well,” the 52-year-old remarked. “His arrival would offer a nice balance of youth and experience in the midfield.”
