Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim appears to be laying the groundwork for the next season, offering strong indications of the players set to lead the charge.

 

Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo were among the standout performers last season, and they’re expected to remain central figures in the squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

 

However, a new name is rapidly rising in importance—Leny Yoro.

 

The 19-year-old centre-back has featured in every pre-season fixture, a distinction he shares only with Fernandes and Diallo. Amorim has placed his trust in Yoro at the right centre-back position, and the young Frenchman has taken full advantage of the opportunity.

Yoro’s performances have blended composure with confidence. His defensive work has been reliable, and his ability to pass out from the back has added an extra dimension to United’s build-up play.

 

Against Everton, Yoro won 7 of 11 ground duels—the highest among United defenders—while contributing with timely tackles and interceptions.

 

Amorim’s tactical approach requires defenders who are aggressive and positionally aware. Despite his age, Yoro has demonstrated an impressive understanding of these demands and seems prepared to embrace a key role this season.

 

United invested £52 million to secure his services from Lille last summer. Although Real Madrid were initially in pole position, Yoro ultimately chose the Premier League giants over the La Liga titans.

 

With Victor Lindelof no longer in the squad, Yoro looks set to cement his place in the starting XI and is expected to compete with Noussair Mazraoui for the right-sided defensive role.
