Chelsea Continue to Push for Jorrel Hato Following Latest Discussions, Says Ben Jacobs
Chelsea remain engaged in efforts to sign Ajax defender Jorrel Hato after holding new talks, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The London club has already welcomed three new players this summer—Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens—but further reinforcements are anticipated.
While negotiations for Xavi Simons are reportedly progressing, Chelsea are also targeting a left-sided defender to enhance options for head coach Enzo Maresca.
Hato Remains on Chelsea’s Radar
Despite bolstering their attacking line-up, Chelsea still have work to do in defense—particularly at left-back. With Marc Cucurella currently the only natural player in that position, depth remains a concern.
Though Malo Gusto and Reece James filled in when necessary last season, relying solely on Cucurella is unsustainable across an entire campaign.
The club appears to have set its sights on 19-year-old Jorrel Hato, though no formal bid has yet been submitted to Ajax. Reports indicate Ajax value the Dutch youngster at around £60 million. Jacobs shared the latest via X.com, stating:
“Chelsea still active on Jorrel Hato after opening fresh talks. No bid yet, but one to watch.”
Hato, who is comfortable at both left-back and centre-back, fits the tactical demands of Maresca’s system. Despite his youth, he’s already featured over 100 times for Ajax and has been capped at senior level for the Netherlands.
Renato Veiga Nearing Atletico Switch
As Chelsea consider a move for Hato, another defender could soon be on his way out. Renato Veiga, who occupied a similar role earlier in the season, is reportedly close to joining Atletico Madrid.
The Portuguese defender spent the latter half of the campaign on loan at Juventus and expressed a desire to play centrally. Chelsea are said to be asking for around €40 million, significantly more than the €14 million they paid for him just a year ago.
