The report indicates that Botafogo are already anticipating John’s departure this summer and have begun identifying a replacement. One of their main targets appears to be Matheus Mendes, currently on loan at América-MG from Atlético-MG.

John’s rapid career growth
John began his professional journey with Santos but struggled to make a significant impact. He later had loan spells at Internacional and Real Valladolid before sealing a permanent move to Botafogo in 2023 for around £1 million. Since then, the 29-year-old has seen a notable rise in form and reputation, with his market value now estimated at over €8 million by Transfermarkt.

So far this season, John has featured in 28 matches, keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding 25 goals. His current contract with Botafogo runs until December 2028.
