The unusual reason Chelsea are blocking Noni Madueke from completing Arsenal medical, even after accepting £52m offer.

Arsenal are edging closer to securing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke after long-standing interest, with the 23-year-old previously identified by Andrea Berta as a key target to bolster their attack.

 

Following weeks of speculation, a deal was reportedly struck between the two clubs on Thursday night, with Arsenal agreeing to pay £52 million for the England international. Madueke has also agreed personal terms with the Gunners.

 

Despite this progress, the transfer is not yet finalized. Chelsea have not granted permission for Madueke to undergo his medical with Arsenal due to an unusual reason.

 

According to talkSPORT’s Jack Cunningham, the Blues want Madueke to remain available for their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain. Although the transfer is agreed, Chelsea still view him as a valuable squad option for the high-stakes match. Manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly keen to have all hands on deck, especially given Madueke’s impact in the semi-final.

 

While Chelsea’s stance is understandable from a competitive point of view, it places Arsenal in a difficult position. Allowing Madueke to feature in such a major fixture carries significant risk. Should the winger sustain an injury, it could derail Arsenal’s plans just before the transfer is completed.

 

Though it may seem harsh, the smart decision for Arsenal would be to prevent Madueke from participating in the final. With the deal nearly sealed, protecting their new signing must take priority.
