According to Prominent Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United continue to show strong interest in acquiring an underused Chelsea attacker.

According to *The Athletic*, Manchester United are still actively pursuing Chelsea midfielder Christopher Nkunku as part of their plans to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.

 

Having already added Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers to their squad, United continue to search for reinforcements. The club is also making progress in negotiations for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, while Nkunku remains a player of significant interest.

 

Bayern Munich have also been long-time admirers of Nkunku and may revisit their interest, especially after failing to land Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams.

 

Nkunku, once a standout at RB Leipzig, has struggled to replicate that form at Chelsea. His first season was hindered by injuries, and in his second year, new manager Enzo Maresca has rarely selected him as a starter, favoring Nicolas Jackson in the central role. The recent arrival of Liam Delap has further limited Nkunku’s chances up front.

 

Despite these setbacks, the French attacker has still managed to contribute 15 goals and 5 assists across competitions. Should he leave Chelsea, he’s expected to seek assurances about playing in his favored No. 10 position.

 

Manchester United could be an attractive destination, as they often deploy two attacking midfielders in their lineup. While the club has already strengthened with Cunha and continues to target Mbeumo, a failure to sign the Brentford star could see them turn their attention fully to Nkunku.

 

Chelsea were reportedly asking £65 million for Nkunku in January, but that figure may drop. With the Blues needing to raise around £60 million to comply with UEFA’s financial registration requirements, United may be able to negotiate a reduced fee.
