Manchester United Could Save £90m by Offloading Rashford and Three Others
Manchester United stand to save approximately £90 million if they part ways with Marcus Rashford and three other high-earning players during the summer transfer window.
Rashford, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa, may be sold in the coming months. According to Football Insider (4 June), United are open to a permanent deal but haven’t dismissed the possibility of another loan move. The forward is currently earning about £300,000 per week and is under contract until 2028.
Ex-Manchester City financial expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that selling Rashford, along with Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro, would significantly benefit United’s financial situation. Sancho and Antony were sent out on loan to Chelsea and Real Betis respectively during the 2024-25 campaign, while Casemiro featured more regularly under new manager Ruben Amorim later in the season.
United’s overall wage bill for 2023-24 hit £365 million, with Casemiro alone believed to be earning roughly £350,000 per week. Reducing such high wages would bring massive savings.
Borson explained, “If Manchester United can remove Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro from their payroll, it would have a huge impact financially. Together, these four players could cost the club between £80m and £90m next season in wages alone. That’s a significant chunk of the wage budget.”
He added, “These players have not contributed enough to justify their salaries. Casemiro played more in the latter part of the season, but at his age, his role will likely diminish. Offloading all four would help the club financially—though the challenge will then be what happens on the pitch.”
Meanwhile, United are already active in the transfer market. On 6 June, Football Insider reported that the club is close to agreeing a fee with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. While Brentford are asking for £60-65 million for the forward—who tallied 20 goals and nine assists last season—United have so far proposed a £45 million deal plus £10 million in add-ons.
