Manchester United have emerged as the frontrunners to land Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo during the upcoming summer transfer window. The 25-year-old forward is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, aligning himself with the Red Devils despite their underwhelming season—their worst since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.

 

Although Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur—three clubs currently competing in the Champions League—are also pursuing Mbeumo, the Cameroonian appears to have set his sights on United. However, negotiations are still ongoing. Brentford reportedly turned down a £45 million bid with an additional £5 million in performance-based incentives, instead holding out for a £60 million total package. Manchester United are expected to return with an improved offer that better meets Brentford’s valuation, though nothing is finalized yet.

 

United are no strangers to the unpredictable nature of transfer sagas, as evidenced by their failed attempt to sign John Obi Mikel in 2005 before Chelsea swooped in.

 

While Mbeumo’s move to Manchester seems likely, the deal remains incomplete until Brentford officially accepts a bid. Meanwhile, Tottenham are not backing down. Brentford head coach Thomas Frank—who has worked closely with Mbeumo for years—is now the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou. If he does take the Tottenham job, there’s speculation that he might try to bring Mbeumo with him, potentially reshaping the player’s decision.

 

Despite this twist, United remain optimistic about securing the transfer. Still, Tottenham’s managerial shake-up and the strong bond between Frank and Mbeumo could complicate things. Staying in London and continuing under a trusted coach may prove tempting.
