Premier League Announces Officials for Chelsea vs. Manchester United Clash as Two Players Ruled Out
The Premier League has revealed the officiating team for Manchester United’s upcoming Friday night showdown with Chelsea, while also confirming that two players will be unavailable for the match.
Manchester United are gearing up for their second-to-last Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season, as Rúben Amorim’s side travels to Stamford Bridge for a Friday night contest under the lights. This match will mark their final away game of the season before they return to Old Trafford on Sunday, May 25, to host Aston Villa and attempt to end a disappointing league campaign on a positive note.
Focus is also turning to the Europa League final, where United will face Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on Wednesday, May 21. The match offers a last opportunity for the team to secure silverware and salvage a turbulent season.
Regardless of how the remaining games unfold, United have already confirmed their lowest finish in Premier League history, sitting 16th with only 39 points from 36 games.
Chris Kavanagh Assigned to Referee Chelsea vs. United
Chris Kavanagh will take charge of the match at Stamford Bridge. This season, he has officiated 24 Premier League matches, 10 in UEFA competitions, and three in other domestic tournaments.
Kavanagh has previously overseen two of United’s fixtures this season: a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham in September and a 4-1 loss to Newcastle last month. Across all competitions, he has handed out 186 yellow cards, including 106 in the Premier League, along with two dismissals via second yellows and six straight red cards. He has also awarded six penalties, three of them in the league.
Supporting him on Friday will be Lee Betts and Richard West as assistant referees, with Tony Harrington serving as the fourth official. Craig Pawson will operate as the VAR, assisted by Nick Hopton.
Chelsea Missing Two Players Ahead of United Fixture
Chelsea will be without two key players for the match against United. In their recent 2-0 loss to Newcastle, forward Nicolas Jackson was sent off for a deliberate elbow on Sven Botman. The act was deemed serious foul play, resulting in a three-game ban that includes the United clash.
