Liverpool reportedly make a surprising move to sign Manchester City icon De Bruyne, beating Serie A heavyweight to the offer.

Liverpool have reportedly made a surprising proposal to sign Kevin De Bruyne once his Manchester City contract ends this summer, outpacing interest from a major Serie A club.

 

De Bruyne, who confirmed last month that his time at the Etihad is nearing its end, referred to it as “the best chapter” of his career, though he acknowledged that “every story comes to an end.”

 

The Belgian star has collected 14 major trophies with City—including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League—cementing his legacy as one of the greatest midfielders in league history. Still, a new Premier League adventure may be on the horizon.

 

Asked about the possibility of joining another English club, De Bruyne expressed openness: “If a club presents a compelling sporting project, I’m interested. I may not be young, but I can still perform at the highest level.”

 

He added, “I’m not sure which clubs are interested yet, but I’m open to listening to any serious opportunity. My passion for the game remains strong, and if my family is on board, we’re ready to decide.”

 

Recent reports linked Liverpool to a potential move, with renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claiming the Reds have officially approached the 33-year-old, even as Napoli explore their own deal.

 

De Bruyne may be intrigued by a switch to a rival, especially after expressing some disappointment with City’s willingness to let him go: “I told them I still had a lot to contribute. I understand I’m not 25 anymore, but I’m still doing my job well.”

 

Pundit Lee Sharpe, speaking to Stadium Astro, said: “I can see him staying in Europe. He’s fit again and enjoying football pain-free. He’d be a smart risk for Liverpool—much like Gary McAllister was late in his career.”

 

Sharpe suggested De Bruyne could thrive in a rotational role: “A one-year deal with an option to extend would suit both parties. He wouldn’t need to play every match, but his presence could be invaluable.”
