Chelsea prepared to act as he could resurrect Palmer: targeting “the world’s best player”

Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s wingers are closely examined as they’re responsible for maintaining width during build-up, pinning fullbacks, and exploiting one-on-one situations when possible.

 

However, most of Chelsea’s current wingers don’t fully align with Maresca’s ideal type, except for Noni Madueke, who fits his system well.

 

Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho offer a slightly different approach, providing tactical flexibility when needed.

 

Bringing in another direct winger, similar to Madueke but operating on the opposite flank, could significantly enhance Chelsea’s attack by adding pace and creating more high-quality scoring chances.

 

Reports from Spain claim Chelsea, alongside Manchester City and Al Hilal, are ready to pursue Barcelona’s Raphinha, identifying him as a top target.

 

Chelsea previously showed interest in Raphinha in 2022, but the Brazilian chose Barcelona, leaving Leeds United in a £55m move.

 

This season, Raphinha has played 49 games for Barcelona, netting 30 goals, contributing 21 assists, and logging nearly 4,000 minutes on the pitch.

 

Barcelona are still in the race for a treble, and if achieved, Raphinha could become a Ballon d’Or contender at 28.

 

Palmer, who started strong this season with 14 goals and 9 assists in 39 appearances, has struggled recently due to intense marking and reduced space.

 

Adding a pacey, direct winger like Raphinha could ease pressure on Palmer by creating space and pulling defenders away from central areas.

 

Statman Dave has even dubbed Raphinha “the best player in the world” this season, due to his directness, creativity, and high goal output.

 

Palmer’s best moments have come when paired with Jackson and Madueke—players who make aggressive forward runs, opening up key areas for him.

 

Introducing Raphinha could further elevate Palmer’s game by increasing Chelsea’s attacking threat and making it tougher for opponents to contain him.
