At 22, Cole Palmer had an outstanding debut season at Stamford Bridge, netting 22 goals and providing 11 assists — a club record for a new arrival. However, his current season has been less fruitful, with just 14 goals and a 16-match goalless streak.

Former Chelsea forward Demba Ba, known for his iconic 2014 goal versus Liverpool, offered Palmer some wise words in an interview with The Sun. He emphasized how rivalries, like the one between Messi and Ronaldo, fuel greatness. “Competition benefits everyone,” Ba noted, crediting it for his growth and suggesting that Messi and Ronaldo pushed each other to excel.

Ba also stressed the value of guidance during tough phases. He pointed out that Palmer, still young and relatively new to top-tier football, would gain from having a mentor to help him through. While Palmer’s personality helps him endure this rough spell, Ba believes he’s missing a seasoned presence to guide him.

Chelsea’s overall struggles in 2025 have mirrored Palmer’s dip in form. Injuries and inconsistency — including from Christopher Nkunku — have affected their attack. Still, there’s optimism, as the team recently secured a win against Fulham and looks to build momentum in their next match versus Everton.
