Arne Slot reveals Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stance following questions about his Liverpool contract.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has given Liverpool a timely injury boost, with Arne Slot confirming the defender could be available for Sunday’s match against Leicester City. Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined for the last four games after sustaining an ankle injury in last month’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

 

The 26-year-old is currently in the final months of his contract and is weighing up a potential move to Real Madrid when his deal runs out. Among Liverpool’s senior players, he is the only one yet to renew, following recent contract extensions signed by Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

 

Slot was reluctant to discuss Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation in detail before the Leicester clash but did reveal that the right-back might be fit enough for a spot on the bench after rejoining training. “I think you’d be surprised if I gave a different answer than I have all season,” said the Dutch manager. “It’s great that we’ve announced two renewals already, but regarding Trent, we don’t talk publicly about ongoing contract matters.”

 

He went on to praise Alexander-Arnold’s dedication throughout his recovery. “He trained with us yesterday, and every time he’s with the team, he proves how committed he is. He’s worked incredibly hard to come back.”

 

Slot highlighted the full-back’s impact and reputation: “Everyone who’s watched Liverpool over the past several years knows how talented he is. We’ll see what the future holds.”

 

Addressing his match readiness, Slot clarified: “He’s not fit to start. But if everything goes smoothly in training today and tomorrow, there’s a chance he could be on the bench. He’s only just returned to full training after five weeks out.”

 

Slot also mentioned that with Conor Bradley still working back to full fitness, having Alexander-Arnold available—even as a substitute—would be a welcome boost.
