Carlo Ancelotti weighs risky lineup decision involving key Real Madrid player ahead of crucial clash with Arsenal.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly contemplating a bold team selection ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg clash with Arsenal tomorrow.

 

After suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg in north London, the Spanish side faces a daunting task and will need a major turnaround to reach the semi-finals.

 

Fede Valverde, who struggled as a stand-in right-back at the Emirates—especially against Gabriel Martinelli—was eventually moved back into his usual midfield role during the final 20 minutes of the match.

 

According to reports from AS, Ancelotti is now considering restoring Valverde to the midfield alongside Aurelien Tchouameni, as Real Madrid look to find the attacking firepower necessary to score at least four goals and turn the tie around.

 

Valverde has been filling in at right-back several times this season due to a long-term injury to Dani Carvajal. However, with the pressing need for goals, Ancelotti is leaning toward using Valverde in his natural position while deploying Lucas Vazquez in the right-back role.

 

In addition, the suspension of Eduardo Camavinga leaves Real Madrid short at left-back. While David Alaba is a potential option, his struggles with injuries and form this season may prompt Ancelotti to turn to Fran Garcia, who came on as a late substitute in the first leg.

 

Despite their strong advantage, Arsenal are not expected to adopt a defensive approach and will likely stick to the attacking style that has served them well in European competition this season.
