Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly considering dropping underperforming goalkeeper Andre Onana after a prolonged run of poor form.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper has largely underperformed since joining Manchester United, with numerous costly errors impacting the team’s results.

 

Whether Onana can revive his form remains uncertain, but it appears Ruben Amorim’s patience may be wearing thin.

 

As per the Daily Mail, there are indications that Amorim could finally opt to bench Onana for this weekend’s clash against Newcastle.

 

Altay Bayindir, United’s reliable backup keeper, is reportedly being readied to step in for Saturday’s fixture.

 

Onana came under fire again following United’s 2-2 Europa League draw with Lyon, where he was blamed for both goals conceded. Many now feel it’s time he’s taken out of the starting lineup.

 

It’s possible Amorim might simply be giving Onana a brief break to relieve pressure, but a section of the fanbase would likely welcome Bayindir as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the campaign.

 

Despite glimpses of brilliance during his time at Ajax and Inter Milan, Onana hasn’t lived up to expectations at Old Trafford.

 

Given the ongoing issues, United may need to consider a replacement during the upcoming transfer window. In the meantime, all eyes will be on whether Amorim puts his faith in Bayindir to take over in goal.
