Liverpool are growing increasingly hopeful of finalizing a major new contract for Mohamed Salah, with reliable sources indicating the club is prepared to meet the player’s terms. There’s also encouraging news regarding contract talks with Virgil van Dijk.
Salah, Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all entering the final months of their current deals, set to expire at the end of the season. Without renewals, the trio could leave as free agents on July 1. Given their vital roles in Liverpool’s recent successes, the club is eager to secure their futures.
While it’s widely believed that Alexander-Arnold may leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer, there’s been consistent optimism about retaining Salah and Van Dijk. With just over a month remaining until the season ends—on May 25 against Crystal Palace—contract announcements are expected soon.
Talks around Salah’s extension appear to be reaching a breakthrough. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri (Sky Sports Switzerland) reports that an agreement in principle has been reached, extending Salah’s stay at Anfield until June 2027. Negotiations were reportedly tough, particularly around the length of the deal, but a compromise has now been struck—Salah is said to have accepted slightly reduced wages in exchange for the two-year extension he sought.
Salah, who has rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, is believed to be earning around £340,000 per week under the new terms—roughly £35.36 million over two years. Tavolieri notes that the forward sees his future solely with Liverpool and has no interest in moving elsewhere.
These claims align with long-standing reports that Salah’s priority is to remain at Anfield, where his family is settled and happy.
David Ornstein, speaking on NBC Sports, also confirmed progress in Van Dijk’s contract discussions. He stated that Liverpool have remained confident of retaining the Dutch defender and that finalizing the deal now seems a matter of “when” rather than “if.”
Ornstein echoed similar sentiments about Salah, reinforcing the club’s belief that the Egyptian forward will commit his future to Liverpool.
While Liverpool looks poised to retain two of their biggest stars, the club is also preparing for the future. Young Juventus defender Dean Huijsen is a key target, with top European clubs—including Real Madrid and Premier League rivals—also in pursuit. However, another elite club is reportedly leading the race after making a direct approach and offering a five-year deal.
In attack, Liverpool are also exploring alternatives after seemingly stepping away from a move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. Instead, the Reds have turned their attention to other high-profile options.
Additionally, SC Freiburg’s Kiliann Sildillia has emerged as a candidate to replace Alexander-Arnold, with early contact already made over a possible budget-friendly move to Anfield.
