David Ornstein reveals major update on Liverpool contracts for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s contract situations have been a concern for Liverpool for quite some time. While Arne Slot’s first season at the club has been impressive, the uncertainty surrounding these key players’ contracts has remained in the background.
Although Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool fans with some clarity despite the disappointing outcome, the futures of Van Dijk and Salah have yet to be resolved. However, both players have provided reasons for optimism among fans.
Despite concerns about offering new contracts to players in their thirties, both Van Dijk and Salah are still performing at a top level, at least until recently.
David Ornstein, a trusted journalist, has shared an update with NBC Sports, revealing that it is now more of a question of “when” rather than “if” Van Dijk and Salah will sign new contracts. Both players are expected to stay at Anfield, barring any unexpected changes. Salah, who had been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, is likely to remain at Liverpool for at least a couple more years.
Ornstein mentioned, “Liverpool are confident and optimistic about renewing Van Dijk’s contract, and it’s now a matter of ‘when’ he’ll sign, assuming there are no last-minute issues. The negotiations have been positive, and the same goes for Salah. Liverpool is confident that they’ll keep him too, and again, it’s more about ‘when’ than ‘if’ at this point, which is great news for them.”
On the downside, the potential loss of Alexander-Arnold is looming, but Liverpool plans to secure a new deal for Conor Bradley, a young full-back who impressed in a recent match against Fulham. The club also intends to sign a new right-back to support Bradley, with a French player from the Bundesliga reportedly on their radar. If FSG looks for a more local option, they may target a Tottenham player to replace the creative impact lost with Alexander-Arnold’s departure.
