Enzo Maresca has identified an overlooked goalkeeper as his top choice for Chelsea’s next shot-stopper.

Enzo Maresca’s first season at Chelsea has highlighted a major weakness in the squad—lack of a top-tier goalkeeper to compete at the Premier League level. Neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen has impressed despite sharing goalkeeping duties, leaving Maresca searching for a more reliable option.

Meanwhile, Djordje Petrovic, who was Chelsea’s primary goalkeeper last season, has been delivering standout performances on loan at Strasbourg. However, the club reportedly doubted his suitability for Maresca’s style of play—an issue that also seems to apply to the current options.

With ball-playing ability being a key requirement, Maresca has turned his attention to potential targets, including returning loanees Petrovic and Mike Penders. However, Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has recently emerged as a strong candidate. The towering 6-foot-8-inch goalkeeper has earned praise in Serie A, with his coach Paolo Vanoli describing him as “underrated.”

Maresca has reportedly been closely monitoring Italian football this season and views Milinkovic-Savic as an ideal solution to Chelsea’s ongoing goalkeeping struggles.
