Intermediaries are reportedly in talks with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid about the possible transfer of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez, who moved to Chelsea in January 2023 for a significant £105 million from Benfica, has since made 97 appearances for the club. Under Enzo Maresca’s guidance, the 24-year-old midfielder has seen his role evolve, with Maresca experimenting with him in different positions. Though primarily a defensive midfielder (No. 6) or central midfielder (No. 8), Fernandez has occasionally been used as an attacking midfielder (No. 10), especially when Cole Palmer has been unavailable. This role, although a shift from his usual position, has highlighted his technical abilities.

Despite settling at Stamford Bridge, there is growing speculation that Fernandez is interested in a potential move to Spain, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid being the most frequently mentioned suitors. However, according to TBR Football, Chelsea have no plans to sell Fernandez and have not entered negotiations for a summer transfer. Despite the rumors circulating through intermediaries, Chelsea sources remain firm in their position.

Fernandez, who signed a contract with Chelsea until 2032, holds a strong position regarding his future. Insiders suggest a move to Atletico Madrid is more likely than to Real Madrid, which is why Atletico has been more heavily linked with him.

Currently, neither Real Madrid nor Atletico Madrid is actively pursuing a deal, which is a positive development for Chelsea, who are committed to keeping Fernandez for the long term.

It’s also important to recall Fernandez’s own comments from late last year, where he expressed his determination to succeed at Chelsea. He shared his ambitions to help the club win trophies and highlighted the impact of Maresca on his development.
